As at 19 August 2026, Malaysia Rail Link reported that the 665-kilometre ECRL had reached 94% overall construction progress as of May 2026. The Kota Bharu–Gombak section is scheduled to begin commercial operations in January 2027. The Gombak–Port Klang connection is scheduled for completion in December 2027 and full operation in January 2028. These are important national milestones, but they are not a substitute for project-specific due diligence.

Ask whether the nearby facility is a passenger station, freight station, interchange, depot, future facility or a station with both functions.

A passenger station is not evidence of container handling, bulk loading, dangerous-goods acceptance or warehouse access.

Rail may be attractive for regular, sufficiently large flows, but two extra handling events or a weak last mile can erase the advantage. Test base, high-volume and disruption scenarios.
